Court orders seizure of Ao's HK assets

The High Court has ordered the confiscation of assets in Hong Kong belonging to Macau's jailed former transport and public works minister, Ao Man-long. A Macau court issued an order for the seizure of all his asssts after he was sentenced to 27 years in prison for corruption. During a hearing in the High Court last week, the lawyer representing the Macau government said a portion of the assets were believed to be in Hong Kong, with the remainder thought to be in Macau and Britain. But Madam Justice Chu questioned whether she could issue a confiscation order for assets outside of Hong Kong, and adjourned the case for clarification. When the hearing resumed, the lawyer said he'd been instructed by the Macau government to pursue only assets in Hong Kong. The former official is said to have amassed a total HK$236-million, but it's unclear how much is held in Hong Kong. He has not contested the application for the seizu
