Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT)

According to ACAMS International Glossary of Key Money Laundering Terms and Acronyms, the term Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) is used to describe the treaty, usually between two countries, that allows for mutual assistance in legal proceedings from private and public sources for use in official investigations and prosecutions.

An MLAT allows access to documents and witnesses and other legal and judicial assistance in the respective countries.
