The Financial Press and the Coverage of Corruption, 2006

This paper was written for the International Conference on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption as a Way of Life, held in Cormayeur, Italy, from 15-17 December 2006. It focuses on the obstacles facing the financial press when covering corruption-related issues.

The paper covers

• changing media coverage of corruption;
• NGOs as a resource for corruption coverage;
• the lack of information available due to lack of transparency in corporate equity disclosure and the growth of financial secrecy regimes;

• the prevention of corruption coverage by strict libel laws.
