The 2008 Anti-Corruption Law is to be brought into effect on 1 January, 2010. The Law initiates the establishment of an anti-corruption body and also criminalises acts of corruption, bribery and embezzlement of funds.
The Anti-Corruption Bill (2008) seeks to give effect to the United Nations Convention against Corruption and the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions. International cooperation and asset recovery are important components of this legislation including measures to prevent and detect transfers of illegally acquired assets, the recovery of property and return of assets.
