The Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Amendment Act (Act No. 2 of 2001) was adopted on 20 April 2001 and commenced on 31 July 2001.
The Act amends the Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Act, 1996 (Act No. 74 of 1996), so as to bring the appointment of the Head of a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) into line with a judgment of the Constitutional Court. Provision is also made for the President to appoint a person as Acting Head of a Special Investigating Unit in the absence of the Head of a Special Investigating Unit.
