Uganda renders mutual assistance to any country through either diplomatic channels or Interpol. There is currently no domestic legislation on mutual assistance. All requests are transmitted either from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Attorney General or Interpol or Interpol directly to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) or the Inspector General of Government (IGG). Any of these agencies can execute requests for mutual assistance.
No treaty is required to give mutual assistance.
Ground for refusal of a request:
Uganda in practice, exercises flexibility in the execution of requests for mutual assistance provided there is reciprocity of information by the requesting country. Therefore in most cases Uganda renders mutual assistance.
