Barely ten days after he was fined Le5m on a charge of misappropriation of public funds, and paid promptly, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday ordered the frozen of the accounts of both Kashope Wellington and Madonna Druscilla Cole for a period of six months.
Both convicted persons are now the subject of further investigations by the ACC into other cases of alleged misappropriation of public funds, while the Commission may also institute civil action against the two accused for the recovery of monies allegedly misappropriated whilst they were public officers.
The action of the ACC according to a Press Release is in accordance with the provisions of Section 59 and 60 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2008.
Furthermore the Commission has also directed that Ernest Joseph Kashope Wellington and Madonna Druscilla Cole should not dispose any or part of their properties in the country.
The ACC also had written to the Human Resource Management Office to recommend that the said Madonna Cole, being a convicted person, be dismissed from the public service with immediate effect pursuant to sections 135 and 136 of the Anti Corruption Commission Act 2008.
It also recommended that the salary currently being paid to Kashope Wellington in accordance with his contract be discontinued forthwith.
Both accused persons were on Monday May 25 convicted by Justice Nicholas Browne-Mark on a one count of Misappropriation of public funds amounting to sixty-three million Leones paid by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as rent for the use of SLBS facilities at Leicester Peak and other sites.
