According to the Definition by the Egmont Group, the term 'financial intelligence unit' means a central, national agency responsible for receiving, (and as permitted, requesting), analyzing and disseminating to the competent authorities, disclosures of financial information:
(ii) required by national legislation or regulation,
in order to combat money-laundering.
According to article 14(1)(b) of UNCAC, the term 'financial intelligence unit' means a national centre for the collection, analysis and dissemination of information regarding potential money-laundering.
