JAKARTA: The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has still not decided whether to launch an appeal against a British court verdict that ruled in favor of former president Soeharto's youngest son Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra.
"We will discuss the next step once we have received the complete copy of the verdict," AGO spokesman Jasman Panjaitan told reporters Monday.
Jasman said there were still other avenues available for prosecutors to convince the court to cancel the ruling, but he refused to elaborate.
"I do no want to provide too much detail into this matter but we do still have a chance. First we must study the verdict," Jasman said.
The Royal court of Guernsey ruled that French-based bank BNP Paribas unfreeze 36 million euros, which initially had been held by the bank, to Garnet investment, one of Tommy's companies, as the court found the Indonesian government failed to prove the money originated from corrupt activities within Indonesia. -JP
