Public Finance and Accountability Act, 2003

The Public Finance and Accountability Act, 2003 of Uganda received assent on 22 May 2003.

The purpose of this Act is

  • to provide for the development of an economic and fiscal policy framework for Uganda;
  • to regulate the financial management of the Government;
  • to prescribe the responsibilities of persons entrusted with financial management in the Government;
  • to regulate the borrowing of money by Government; and
  • to provide for the audit of Government, state enterprises and other authorities of the State.

The scope of the powers, duties and responsibilities of the Office of the Auditor General inter alia derives from the Public Finance and Accountability Act 2003.
