This short video was taken during a workshop on "Implementing the Asset Recovery Provisions of the United Nations Convention against Corruption", hosted by the International Centre for Asset Recovery of the Basel Institute on Governance, in cooperation with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on 15-16 May 2007 in Basel, Switzerland. It was attended by 25 specialists in the area of asset recovery from around the world, and 30 observers.
At the plenary session "Case Study 2: The Innovative Case – Vladimiro Montesinos", Daniel Claman, Senior Trial Attorney, US Department of Justice speaks on the issues: 1) what could have been done differently or more effectively in the Montesinos proceedings in the USA had the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) been in place and fully implemented by the member states; 2) what actions are needed to make UNCAC operational.
