What is Asset Recovery?

preview

Strengthening the ability of developing countries to recover assets that have been stolen and hidden in foreign jurisdictions is a key part of the worldwide campaign against corruption. The United Nations Convention Against Corruption promises a new era of cooperation among nation states in asset recovery. Many countries are taking important steps to facilitate rightful recoveries, legally and administratively. The growing knowledge and expertise on asset recovery techniques is increasingly available to developing countries, as are processes, technologies and training for capacity building. The field of asset recovery encompasses all of the steps necessary for a successful recovery, including asset tracing, satisfying legal requirements, resolving competing claims, invoking mutual legal assistance and the mechanics of repatriation.
