The Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office (RCPO) was created in 2005 and is an independent government department responsible for prosecuting all Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) criminal cases. It is responsible for prosecuting some of the largest drug and fraud cases in the UK.
RCPO's lawyers also perform similar functions to those exercised by CPS lawyers. The RCPO's Asset Forfeiture Division, in addition to the confiscation of assets after conviction, can also restrain the assets of suspects and defendants during the investigation and prosecution stages of the process.
