Tommy Suharto

preview

Tommy Suharto, also known as Hutomo Mandala Putra, is the youngest son of Suharto (1922 - 2008), the ex-president of Indonesia for 32 years. 1 Suharto and members of his family  acquired through corrupt means a fortune estimated at between $15 billion and $ 35 billion. To date  no money has been recovered, though Suharto himself was at some point placed under house arrest. The case was later dropped because of Suharto's poor health. 2 Of all the beneficiaries of the Suharto's regime,  Tommy is alleged to have benefited most as founder and president of several legitimate and illegitimate business ventures. Tommy was at one time  said to be worth at least $800 million. Tommy has been linked to several allegations of corruption, murder and money laundering. Efforts to presecute him and recover the assets have been partially sucessful. In February 2009 the Jakarta court acquitted him on charges involving loss of $400 million.
