Inter-American Convention on Extradition (B-47), 1981

The Inter-American Convention on Extradition was adopted at Caracas, Republic of Venezuela, on 25 February 1981 and entered into force on 28 March 1992 for the Member States of the Organization of American States.

The purpose of this Convention is

  • to strengthen international cooperation in legal and criminal law matters
  • to ensure that crime does not go unpunished, and to simplify procedures and promote mutual assistance in the field of criminal law on a wider scale than provided for by the treaties in force.
